Past Event: Big Sale of Traditional Quilts THIS WEEKEND

Sorry for the lack of advance notice.  Eli Leon is selling his traditional quilt collection at Elbow Grease Studios in Berkeley.

Elbow Grease Designs' Showroom
2743 9th Street in Berkeley (map)

The sale begins at 10 each day.  Regular hours 11 - 4 Tues, Wed & Thur, 11 - 7 Fridays
(and by appointment).   510-841-8548

There's a Facebook gallery with lots of photos -- https://www.facebook.com/pages/Elbow-Grease-Designs/129780427037898

The Facebook hours say the Elbow Grease studio is closed for the weekend. This is incorrect; the studio is OPEN from at least 10 to 4 on Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend also features MAKER FAIR in San Mateo, and the every-other-year conference of Northern California Handweavers Conference at the Oakland Convention Center -- see the earlier post on this blog.

No scope for imagination

Any comments?

I recently listened to an audio version of the classic novel "Anne of Green Gables", and was sure I had heard the heroine comment, "there's no scope for imagination in patchwork."  So I found a paper copy, and sure enough, here's the exact quote:

"...there's no scope for imagination in patchwork. It's just one little seam after another and you never seem to be getting anywhere."

Too bad she couldn't have seen a quilt show like our recent Voices in Cloth!

If you run across a similarly, um, LIMITED view of quilting, could you post the quote as a comment on this post?  I'm sure quilters will be amused.  -- Rachel Holmen

More about Marjan Kluepfel's Dye Workshop

Arleen Kukua has posted a wonderful report about Marjan Kluepfel's dyeing workshop at http://quiltohana.blogspot.com/.   Here's a photo of Arleen's work in progress.  (There are actually two posts, one about the Monday workshop, and a separate post about the Saturday workshop.)

Past Event: Weaving Show in Oakland this weekend

Also Maker Faire in San Mateo. Northern Calif Handweavers expo is this weekend.

This event only happens every OTHER year, and it moves around, so we're lucky to have it local this time. It's at the Oakland Convention Center, where EBHQ used to have its shows; right next to 12th Street BART Station. Parking is available; if you don't like the convention center prices, drive down Washington Street and you'll see several less expensive lots. I've used the one at 7th and Washington (only reachable from the 7th street side) for years and nobody's ever bothered my car. (I get my hair cut next door at the fabulous TOPPS Salon.)

The website for CNCH has a $2 discount coupon you can print and bring with you.

The gallery of weaving samples is always just amazing, and there are baskets, and often things woven from improbable materials (old cassette tape; Capri Sun juice containers; you name it).   There's a hands-on, make it/take it area, and chances for hands-on weaving, spinning, etc.
