Past Event: Today's meeting is deadline for entering wearables and quilts

The entry deadline for Voices in Cloth is the meeting this evening at First Unitarian Church of Berkeley in Kensington.

See for the necessary forms.  Your items don't have to be finished or delivered today, but the FORMS and photos need to be turned in for the people planning the show layout.

If you have workshop items to enter, that deadline is still a week or two away.

Interesting article about American textiles

A modern photographer has posted an interesting slideshow of American weaving factories.  Most of the photos relate to wool rather than cotton, but they're fascinating anyway.  (And did you know that indigo -- to dye fabric blue -- was a major American crop, encouraged in particular by a teenage girl -- Eliza Lucas Pickney -- left in charge of her father's plantation?)

For more about Eliza Pickney, read Cokie Roberts' fascinating book, Ladies of Liberty: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation.
