The Sanchez Art Center has quilts on display until Aug. 12, 2012. The quilters whose work is displayed are Joyce Goode, Judy Woodfill, Janet Mednick, Laureen Neilly, Julie Scribner, Juna Carle, Merrilyn Scott, and Tama Blough. Several of these women are also quilt teachers and lecturers; at least one has published quilting books.
The gallery is located at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd. in Pacifica, "about 1.5 miles east of Highway 1".
Here's the show announcement. -- Rachel Holmen

Is someone else going to do your quilting?
If your primary activity as a quilter is to design and piece your quilt, but not do the actual quilting, several of our affiliate members have posted guidelines on the web.

Remembering Carol Lee Blangsted
Carol Lee Blangsted, who held dozens of board posts over the years at EBHQ, and who emceed the November "show and tell" event every year, lost her battle with cancer on June 22, 2012. She'll be remembered for her knowledge, her skills, for the classes she taught, for her well-made and often humorous quilts, and most of all for her hats. The sad news was conveyed to our members by new board president Deanna Davis at yesterday's guild meeting.
Carol Lee Blangsted was interviewed and recorded in 1998 for the EBHQ Living Treasures project.
If you have photos of Carol Lee, or of her quilts, or memories you'd like to share, please email photos for this blog to raeholmen@gmail.com, and post memories as comments to this post.
Here's a photo of her quilt "Remember Test Patterns?" in the Voices in Cloth 2012 show.
The New Pieces website has several photos of Carol Lee, and photos of some of her quilts in listings of past classes.

The sale begins at 10 each day. Regular hours 11 - 4 Tues, Wed & Thur, 11 - 7 Fridays

No scope for imagination
Any comments?
I recently listened to an audio version of the classic novel "Anne of Green Gables", and was sure I had heard the heroine comment, "there's no scope for imagination in patchwork." So I found a paper copy, and sure enough, here's the exact quote:
"...there's no scope for imagination in patchwork. It's just one little seam after another and you never seem to be getting anywhere."
Too bad she couldn't have seen a quilt show like our recent Voices in Cloth!
If you run across a similarly, um, LIMITED view of quilting, could you post the quote as a comment on this post? I'm sure quilters will be amused. -- Rachel Holmen

More about Marjan Kluepfel's Dye Workshop
Arleen Kukua has posted a wonderful report about Marjan Kluepfel's dyeing workshop at http://quiltohana.blogspot.com/. Here's a photo of Arleen's work in progress. (There are actually two posts, one about the Monday workshop, and a separate post about the Saturday workshop.)
Past Event: Weaving Show in Oakland this weekend
Also Maker Faire in San Mateo.
Northern Calif Handweavers expo is this weekend.
This event only happens every OTHER year, and it moves around, so we're lucky to have it local this time. It's at the Oakland Convention Center, where EBHQ used to have its shows; right next to 12th Street BART Station. Parking is available; if you don't like the convention center prices, drive down Washington Street and you'll see several less expensive lots. I've used the one at 7th and Washington (only reachable from the 7th street side) for years and nobody's ever bothered my car. (I get my hair cut next door at the fabulous TOPPS Salon.)
The website for CNCH has a $2 discount coupon you can print and bring with you.
The gallery of weaving samples is always just amazing, and there are baskets, and often things woven from improbable materials (old cassette tape; Capri Sun juice containers; you name it). There's a hands-on, make it/take it area, and chances for hands-on weaving, spinning, etc.
